5 Day Devotional Sunday Sermon: Fresh Series - Part 1 - Follow Me

January 6, 2025

Let Go of the Past

  • Philippians 3:13-14

  • Isaiah 43:18-19

Devotional Thought:

The apostle Paul reminds us that focusing on the future is essential to spiritual growth. Like the fishermen who left their nets behind, we must let go of the burdens, regrets, and mistakes of the past. Dwelling on what has already happened can prevent us from stepping into the new things God has prepared for us. Remember, God is doing something new—are you ready to embrace it?

Reflection Question:

What "nets" from your past do you need to leave behind to fully embrace God’s plan for your life?

Prioritize Christ

  • Mark 10:17-22

  • Matthew 6:19-21

Devotional Thought:

The rich young ruler walked away from Jesus sad because he couldn’t let go of his possessions. Jesus wasn’t asking him to live a life of poverty but to reorder his priorities to reflect his ultimate treasure—God. Our possessions, achievements, and even relationships can become obstacles when they hold a higher place than Christ. Let’s strive to make Christ the center of our lives, trusting that He provides all we need.

Reflection Question:

What possessions or priorities might be holding you back from fully following Jesus?

Daily Commitment

  • Luke 9:23

  • Romans 12:1-2

Devotional Thought:

Following Jesus isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily act of surrender. Each day brings opportunities to choose His way over our own. This requires a willingness to carry our cross—denying selfish desires and embracing God’s will. By renewing our minds and focusing on His purpose, we become transformed into people who reflect His love and truth.

Reflection Question:

How can you intentionally choose to follow Jesus today?

Serve Others

  • Mark 1:17

  • Matthew 25:40

Devotional Thought:

Jesus called the disciples to be “fishers of people,” a mission that reflects His love for others. One way we follow Jesus is by serving others. Whether through acts of kindness, encouragement, or meeting physical needs, serving others reflects God’s heart and opens doors for His kingdom to grow. When we serve others, we serve God.

Reflection Question:

How can you serve someone in your community today as an act of love and obedience to God?

Trust God’s Plan

  • Jeremiah 29:11

  • Proverbs 3:5-6

Devotional Thought:

God’s plans are always bigger and better than anything we can imagine. Just as He called fishermen to change the world, He is calling you into a purpose that fits into His divine plan. Trusting Him requires faith, especially when we can’t see the whole picture. Remember, God is faithful to lead us when we seek His guidance with humble hearts.

Reflection Question:

In what area of your life do you need to surrender control and trust God’s plan?
